aka Common Buckeye Wing span: 1 5/8 - 2 3/4 inches (4.2 - 7 cm). Comments: The eyespots may be used to scare away predators. Caterpillar hosts: Plants from the snapdragon family including snapdragon (Antirrhinum) and toadflax (Linaria); the plantain family including plantains (Plantago); and the acanthus family including ruellia (Ruellia nodiflora).
While trying to get my pics ready to be backed up on disc I ran across this shot. This would have been a great one for the butterfly contest over at the =NaturPics-club Oh well that will teach me to get a little more organized  I still like my "Pearl Crescent [link] " pic so no harm. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. To help support the Literature community we hold regular contests. It is an opportunity for you to get involved and gain some exposure. Contest winners will be featured in a news article and a journal entry--as well as other fabulous prizes.
