Today has been quite interesting so far....Had to go to the doctor for blood work and because of how far away it is (35 miles one way). I usually make an outing out of it and go to the river walk thing. Today we were walking me taking pics and I asked Amanda to pose for me. She made a comment about the baby ducks down from us about 10 feet. "I'm all yeah...yeah don't move". My son comes over and says "eww why would you sit next to a dead duck" I look over the wall and sure as shit right there is a dead mommy duck. Looked as if a dog got it....then I look back at the baby ducks:faint: 5 one week old babies:sadangel: I tried calling the humane society or the city but my phone was out of area couldn't reach information to save my life. Finally a woman that I dragged over for help tried calling someone...No luck and she said there were 6 babies yesterday. She suggested I catch them and take them to the pound. So I hauled my ass back to my car and got a box from a local business. Mind you I told my kids to not talk to anyone just watch the babies. I come back to some guy with 2 kids harassing my kids and the babies. Before I could get back there him and his kids take off.:frustrated: So now we have to try and catch upset babies......Amanda caught two off the bat:w00t!: But, the other three were extremely elusive. During this time we are dealing with old ladies giving us looks of I'd hit you with my bag if I could you hooligans.... After 45 minutes of fruitless tries on the last three I noticed a woman coming towards us....looking kind of official. So I prepared myself for a ticket or something for illegally catching ducks....But, instead she came to help she is the director for "Heart of Texas Wildlife Rehabilitation Center". With her help Amanda caught two more at once and I caught the third one while sliding into the river:giggle: She congratulated us that if it wasn't for us the babies would have died come nightfall. But, she explained because the ducks weren't protected she couldn't take them. So we have brought them home and will keep them till they are about 8inches tall then we can release them back to their real home. The lady was nice enough to not only give me her business card but, she also gave one each to my kids. She told me she rescues owls and other raptors and small mammals. So I asked if she ever lets anyone take pics.....she in turn asked if I was a photographer so I said aspiring to be:D She said she would give me a call the next time they get anything in:w00t!: :boogie:

Anyways, we made it home wet but, safe with the babies. Expect pics with 5 ducklings and Easter right around the corner;P I'll keep you posted on our progress:D

Your photos and story made me happy. I hope the ducklings are doing well. I rescue animals, mostly birds, all the time, so your story hits home with me. I swear, I'm surprised the vet school here doesn't know me by name yet. Last month it was an injured purple martin, two days ago, a juvenile grackle with a head wound. Good luck with the ducklings. ^^

(Oh wow, I just realized I am posting on a really old dead post. I amend this, I hope everything with the ducklings went well and they got released happily!)
